A Marquee Wedding in York with Iva & Giulian

Iva approached us to photograph her wedding and she already had Amber from Travelling Jaspers on board to style it. I knew straightaway that this was going to be one awesome day. Their plan was to have a marquee wedding on the grounds of Laurelville Manor, and to have Amber style the heck out of it. I didn’t get to meet Giulian till the day of the wedding but he was all smiles and made me feel welcome like an old friend. Iva and Giulian’s wedding party were some of their closest friends and family so it was party central from the moment I got there.

It had been more than a year since I had been back to York, so I was excited to be shooting this wedding. Being several hours inland from Perth, York can get really hot in the summer, but when autumn come around and the weather cools, the view on any evening up on Mt Brown is pretty spectacular. During the location shoot, one of the groomsmen turned the speakers in his car to full volume. I’m pretty sure all of York could hear us that day.

When we arrived at the reception, I was greeted by the biggest hanging foliage I had ever seen at a marquee wedding. Amber had somehow managed to transport a truckload of greenery all the way from Perth and set up this massive hanging installation, and it looked amazing. That set the tone of the night, and Iva + Giulian made their entrance with lots of dancing. When we finally settled down for speeches, there were lots of tears and laughter, and plenty of hugs exchanged. And soon it was back to dancing. This went throughout the night. When I had to leave and make the trip back to Perth, I was exhausted but also with a full heart. I almost wish it didn’t have to end.
